Farm & Food System Tours

Navigating the food system in community.

What’s the Story Behind Your Food?

In our global, industrialized food system, many people don’t know the story behind their food. By exploring our own local/regional food system, we can recover the relationships and connections to our food’s story, improve nutrient density and support our neighbors, our ecosystems and the local economy. We also have the opportunity to simplify some of the complexities of the food system and incorporate those principles into our own personal or family food system.

Navigating the Food System

Understanding the food system that we all interact with can help us improve our own health and the health of the environment. Feed Your Health Farm & Food System Tours can take a variety of forms including:

  • Visit a local farm, farmers’ market, or agricultural food hub. Connect with farmers and producers of locally-grown and raised food through farm and/or food system tours.

  • Local food pantry introduction. Learn about the factors which contribute to food insecurity, and how community organizations are diverting otherwise wasted food to those in need.

  • Tour your local grocery store. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed at the grocery store, you’re not alone. Consider a Feed Your Health grocery store tour to gain clarity, save money and prioritize nourishment when it comes to food shopping. Also, see this Journal post on Navigating the food system.
